Reservation in education, jobs in Hyderabad-Karnataka notified

The provisions of Article 371 (J) of the Constitution, aimed at bringing about all-round development in six districts of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region — Gulbarga, Yadgir, Bellary, Bidar, Raichur and Koppal, will come into effect straightway with Governor H.R. Bhardwaj approving relevant notifications on Tuesday ensuring reservation in employment and education.

Special status to Hyderabad-Karnataka region notified

Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj late Tuesday notified special status to the Hyderabad-Karnataka region in the state conferred under Article 371J of the Constitution. The seven districts of the state, part of the erstwhile Hyderabad state under the Nizams till 1948, to get the special status are Bellary, Bidar, Bijapur, Gulbarga, Koppal, Raichur and Yadgir. "The governor has also notified the setting up of the Hyderabad-Karnataka Region Development Board and the Karnataka Educational Institutions (regulations of admission in the region) to provide 70 percent reservation to students from the region and eight percent for them in institutions in other regions across the state," an official statement said here.

Gulbarga, Sept 17(UNI) The 60th Liberation Day was celebrated in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region. While the country got Independence on August 15-1947, Hyderabad-Karnataka Region, Telangana in Andhra Pradesh and Bombay-Karnataka got independence on this day in 1948 since the then ruler Nizam refused to merge this region into the free India. He continued to rule this areas even after independence.
